Vale-Inco Thompson selects Algosys Metallurgical Accountant™ solution
Quebec, Canada – April 24th, 2009 - Algosys announces that Vale-Inco has selected Algosys to implement a global production and metallurgical accounting solution across the mill, smelter and refinery at their Thompson Division in Manitoba, Canada.
Presently, the Thompson Division heavily relies on manually entered spreadsheets and databases to process production data and to generate production accounting reports. Already identified as a time consuming task and a difficult to maintain system, this approach is nowadays obsolete as it no longer complies with traceability and audit ability for modern requirements.
Algosys’ Metallurgical Accountant™ solution offers automation capabilities to data acquisition and data processing tasks. This minimizes time and effort in monitoring and reporting by the operation management and the accounting department.
With Metallurgical Accountant™ standard features, the solution includes Ore Movement, Product Movement and Consumables Accounting modules and reports. Data that cannot be acquired from an on-line database will be entered through a Web Portal. The Web Portal also provides a controlled access to all the reports. Finally, a Dashboard will be provided both for production and performance monitoring.
This Metallurgical Accountant™ implementation follows similar implementations at three other Vale-Inco sites: Clarabelle Mill, Vale Inco Newfoundland & Labrador and Goro Nickel as part of the Master Service Agreement signed between Algosys and Vale-Inco.

Metallurgical Accountant™ is now running at Industrias Peñoles S.A.
Last February, Algosys and Industrias Peñoles signed a corporate agreement stating that all plants are to be equipped with Metallurgical Accountant™ solutions. Metallurgical Accountant™ is now producing the first automated balances & production and accounting reports.The first of 9 plants being equipped since August 18th 2008, Compañia Minera Sabinas is now in the fine tuning stage. The second plant to undergo installation of the solution, which is expected for mid-November, will be Minera Fresnillo. As for the Madero plant, it is now at the audit acceptance stage.

XXIV International Mineral Processing Congress (IMPC)

Pilot project results in the implementation of Metallurgical Accountant™ for Goro Nickel New Caledonia.Algosys has been awarded the contract for the implementation of Metallurgical Accountant™ for the entire Goro Nickel plant of Vale-Inco in New Caledonia following a pilot project on a plant section successfully completed only a few months ago. Goro Nickel operates a complex hydrometallurgical process for recovering Nickel. Algosys' mass balance engine Bilmat™ proves its efficiency, once again, at solving hydrometallurgical mass balances. The project will be completed in December 2008.

Control Loop Attendant at the Laval University power plant
Laval University’s energy power plant is considered to be amongst the best and most modern heating and air conditioning plants in North America. Equipped with 4 boilers, with a capacity of 300,000 pounds per hour, it is the soul energy supplier for the entire campus, covering all 35 buildings. As for air conditioning, its 4 compressors can generate up to 5500 tons.
Having recently modernised the boilers’ control system in order to improve performance and effectiveness, the administrators and managers deemed it important to ensure that obtained performance gains be maintained in order to guarantee projected reliabilities and monetary turn out.
Aware of this reality, Algosys’ representatives approached the plant managers in order to propose the use of their new performance management tool « Control Loop Attendant » (CLA). The proposed solution answered specifically to the manager’s different preoccupations, which were to:
• Maintain optimal performance;
• Avoid unplanned shut downs;
• Optimise the use of resources without increasing supervision and maintenance costs.

Bilmat 9.3 available in NovemberAlgosys is proud to announce that its new BILMAT version will be available in November. All members of the BILMAT maintenance program will be receiving shortly the upgrade for the 9.3 version. In order to remain the leader and maintain state of the art products in the data reconciliation and mass balancing fields, the following improvements have been made:
•The error model editor is available for all types of complete and incomplete data networks.
•A summary report has been added
•The validation tool report has been modified
•The data networks to be reconciled are now selectable
•The residuals analysis report has been modified

A Plant Flowsheet in Bilmat coming soonA long awaited feature is coming soon!
The next release of Bilmat will feature a new tool for displaying and editing plant flow diagrams within a Bilmat Excel workbook.
The example below displays the current status of this new tool when applied to the Bilmat Grinding Sample workbook. We are finalizing the development of a configurable grid for displaying stream compositions and flows.This new Bilmat version will be released in early 2006.

BILMAT 9.1 is ready nowAll BILMAT subscribers will soon receive version 9.1, the latest update. Version 9.1 features an even more robust algorithm and a new worksheet type for complete analyses. This new worksheet proposes a new format that circumvents the limitations of the formats already proposed for complete analyses. Coming soon: A plant flow diagram, an error model for level-4 data and complete level-3 analyses, and an improved worksheet for the residuals analysis are planed for Version 9.2 (January 2006) and 9.3 (September 2006).

Metallurgical Accountant & Bilmat Real-time at CVRD-SossegoAlgosys announce the successful installation of its software suite Metallurgical Accountant as well as its Bilmat Real-time at Sossego – CVRD, the first Brazilian copper mine. The products now enter their tuning, validation and support phase. The set up of the system took place in April 2004, simultaneously with the concentrator start up. Metallurgical Accountant is Algosys’ automated solution for production and metallurgical accounting with reconciled data, while Bilmat Real-Time allows the monitoring of the operation and the maintenance of the instrumentation as well as the process control using real-time reconciled data. The Metallurgical Accountant solution installed in Sossego compiles the daily production and metallurgical reports, while Bilmat Real-Time reconciles the on-line instrumentation measures every 15 minutes for process & instrumentation monitoring purposes. Both systems are integrated to the Knowledge Manager suite provided by ABB.

Bilmat 9.0 Release Announced for February 2004 | The final testing phase of the new Bilmat is currently in progress. The members of the Bilmat subscription license should see their current Bilmat upgraded by mid-February. Here are some of the Bilmat 9.0 new features:
- Bilmat now integrates Microsoft .net technology. This technological upgrade allowed an interface update as well as the design of a new module & option management system.
- An error model design worksheet is now included in Bilmat. The error model is the corner stone of a data reconciliation calculation. Bilmat now provide its users with tools to accelerate the convergence toward a reliable, representative error model.

A Trade Mission to Peru in the Mining Sector (August 2003)Algosys, with the support of the ministère du Développement économique et régional (MDER), through its program of La Décennie québécoise des Amériques, and in collaboration with Camese and 48ième Nord, will lead a trade mission to Peru from the 15 to the 19 of September 2003. The trade mission aims at promoting the products and solutions offered by Québec companies to the Peruvian mining sector. Eight companies from the province of Québec have already confirmed their participation and will attend the Extemin tradeshow in Arequipa. Networking sessions and industrial visits will complete the mission set of activities.
